Hurray for Huge Apertures
Large apertures let lots of light in, allowing you to use a faster shutter and freeze action. A side effect is a more shallow depth of focus, which yakked about before. This DOF is highly sought after in my areas such as portrait and sports photography where you want the focus - and with it the emphasis - on the subject, leaving the background a pleasant blur. I've selected pics where possible that used a very low (large) aperture to demonstrate. My fastest lens, a 1.8, does an excellent job of this. You'll always see it on when I'm in low light and with people. =) If you're thinking of getting into digital SLR cameras, I've made a list of goodies on my shopping list. From bowling last week with Chi Alpha, [with David]
To shooting sporting events night after night, [with David and Joe]
Even some more casual subjects,
To some absolutely rocking concerts by eVibe and by my friends, The Buskers, [with Lindsay]
To a very cool museum in Minneapolis with the Body Worlds exhibit, and finally,
Visiting great friends and traveling with family. [with Katlin and Chris]
So how are you? Let's go eat, I'm hungry!

fun photos
All those pics of Kenosha Bradford. They're the ones that lost. Why would they wanna see pictures of the game?
HAHA! Not that I like Homestead but...as the Bulldogs learned, THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE HIGHLANDER!!!
I kid. When the heck did you do the volleyball game? Is your sister in that one or something? Drop some word on me dawg. At least you have the Homestead schooling Cedarburg pic on there
I noticed your music selection - apparently the UK is having its effect on you afterall. Hey, you're hungry? I have lots of food here silly, just stop by! Oh & nice pictures.. they look like they've been shot by a PAID photographer. *nudge nudge* =)
You are such an amazing photographer. Say, aren't you a PAID photographer? (I figured I could help Esther with that nudging)
Wowzers, nice photos :c)
I really do think I need to take some photography lessons from you. These are cool. When do the classes start? Peace!
Man, those are GREAT!
wooo whooo for The Buskers & eVibe
... now where are the rest of the photos?!?! lol, just kiddin'
oh, and by the by... AMAZING photographs Nick
I cannot tell you how amazing these are. I especially love the one of the running back (#25). Mary D. Bradford High School, right? I see you were in my neck of the woods, eh?
whoa, did i forget to comment on your blog? *shakes head* i'm slipping!
so how much are you making as a PAID photographer? (i don't know what esther's nudging about, but i am nothing if not a nudger.
)
Super!
The color in those photos is quite stunning.
wow-these are GREAT pictures. no wonder you're getting paid. the volleyball pic is a great shot. i agree with regulargoy--the color is captivating.
good stuff, your pretty local, maybe we should get together and take pictures
You've go the eye, buddy--excellent shots.
ryc: It's the way I roll........ ha
Yes, K-Town in the house!
I would absolutely love that, but first I gotta get a better camera. My Pro1 isn't very good for sports photography since it doesn't focus on rapidly-moving objects very well (especially at night). I'm am, however, looking into getting a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. 10.1 mega pixels of digital SLR goodness!
My ability to join you in this venture would be limited to how quickly I can scrape up the dough for this lovely piece of modern technology.
yeah-you do have "the eye" for pics. i took the minor in photography route in undergrad. spent a lot of money on it too (an expensive minor!), but never finished. just sort of fizzled out. but you definitely have that "eye" they talk about in photography. i like it.
ryc: minne-sota is very brown and gray these days. although it's 35 degrees, we're managing alright. well, truth be told, we haven't gone outside that much! that's what happens when it's so freakin' cold. at least my parents have a treadmill. life is slow here. really slow.
thank you!!!!!!
yeah, it is hard to get people to go in for treatment, especially adults because legally they don't have to.
i think my favorite picture is the one at the top with the girl in the glasses, don't know why, just really like it.
your friend, vyk
ryc ~ nope, i was standing up and holding the camera while I took it, which explains the wiggle-effect. but i LIKE the trails and blurriness! c'mon now.
watch for a forthcoming email about rental cars, teehee
nick--i REALLY like the billiards picture, but only wish the word "billiards" were clearer. it would make a great gift for my sister and husband who love to play pool. any chance you could make the word clearer? would definitely be interested in buying the photo. let me know.
