  • I just started to cry…. this is so exciting. I just sold $70 $92 in pictures between two orders.

Really, I appreciate every kind comment about pictures that I’ve taken, but I can’t even begin to tell how it feels when someone is willing to pay over $20 for a single image. Many thanks to David for setting me up with WisconsinPreps.com where they featured my pictures at the top of this page beginning yesterday, to my parents for buying the camera for my b-day, and to Esther for getting the lens that took 95% of the pictures. =)

    The bestseller:

I was reading before I went that “faces sell” so I made sure to focus on shots with faces and expressions. Sure enough, these sold too…

I just hope to make enough to support the habit. Do drug dealers fool themselves with that logic? But really, almost all of the pictures that sold were pictures with flash. I say with flash because it works when it’s charged up… I had it set to go for every shot, but when you’re shooting across a football field, literally, it completely discharges itself as it puts out as much light as possible. Sometimes, it would take 10 or 15 seconds before it was ready to go again. So this Friday, I’m going to use rechargeable Ni-MH batteries that recharge more quickly than alkaline. :crosses thumbs: Suddenly I don’t feel so bad for spending $194 on the flash. Ack, I’ll be on cloud nine for the rest of the day. Thank you Lord.

  • so, do I understand correctly that a picture of a bunch of derierres was the bestseller? i’m not quite sure how to react to that.

    oh…and…FIRST!

  • I am very not surprised.  I’ve always wondered when you’d start selling photos…

My camera died this weekend, and I intend to ask my xanga friends for advice re: a new one, and I’m looking forward to your input.

  • Congrats on your photo sales!  I can relate to the thrill.  It’s quite exciting to have people actually pay you for something you love doing.  And when you get published… Ahhhhh!  That’s even better.  :)

  • I am so happy for you! I know this means the world to you – I think this proves that you are as good as we all say. =)

  • Oh My Gosh!! Thats So Cool! Congrats!!!

  • Congratulations. You’re officially an artist, if you need the validation.

  • Holy expletives…I’m in the wrong end of the business! :P

Yes, I just said this to you two minutes ago. It was so funny I had to share it with the world :)

  • way to go! that is exciting and inspiring!

  •    Awesome, man! Yeah, go for the Ni-MH rechargables. They recharge pretty fast (1,2,3 seconds most of the time, depending on the flash), plus, when they’re done, slap in a freshly-charged set & you’re back in business. A car charger would also be a wise investment (or power inverter) for recharging on-site.

I’m glad to hear things are going well for you!

  • As a parent, I would love to buy pictures from someone who captured a moment that either I missed or didn’t want to photograph because sometimes you just want to WATCH. Good for you, Nick.

  • RYQ: You better be wearin’ shoes boy! ;)

  • Congratulations to you!!  I love that this is a big deal to you– it really should be and some people seem to be so unaffected, making me wonder how connected they are to what they create in the first place.

    So YAY!

ryc:  hahaha.. yeah, definitely caught :)

  • Photography seems to be your thing and the pics are amazing. It’s an art form people would gladly pay money for. If you keep this up you’ll have a lucractive side business in no time. Keep up the good work. Peace!

  • Wow are you a prof photographer? No wonder your pics are amazing. My dad’s hobby used to be photography and sadly he has no time for it anymore. What do you think would be an ideal present for a person interested in photography? He used to collect old cameras. I have a limited budget though. Re: your comment, I think that was a very clever trick with the Auto-correct. I’m not as creative as you. I only ever used it with school stuff in order to make abbreviations to their actual words. Dull stuff like that.

    Peace :)

  • Nick my son….I have taught you very well my apprentice! My question for you is what kind of flash are you using these days?

  • RYQ: You can start a petition, but you and your followers would have to protest outside my place of business before I’d consider it. The garter must stay up!

  • yep. it’s on friday nights :)   i love it.
