  • Psilly Phishing Photos

Sorry, ghoti didn't fit into the headline.

I haven't had a rockstar post in a long time, but it felt good. One of those things I've meant to post for such a long time and finally put it into words when I was in a good writing mood. This is not one of those moods. More accurately, it's too late at night to be in one of those moods.

So please enjoy this little photo series.

What it looked like when I woke up Esther. It was 4am, and I had told her it would be an early morning of...something.

Here I am showing off my catch. I was excessively proud and made too big of a deal about pictures, nearly chucking the fish overboard after this last shot because I was more concerned with how I looked in the picture than with the fish who was just looking for its 15 minutes of fame.

Esther is demonstrating the salmon shuffle. It somehow involves the hands, feet, hips, and face.

Less than a year ago, she thought you could see across Lake Michigan. Little did she know that she would be holding a chinook salmon before 9am this summer.

Lehnert, with his enormous - uh - catch,  put the charter together like Jake did last year, only this year we left from Port Washington for salmon versus last year's depature from Kenosha for trout.

Jake with his dad. Lehnert's dad is in the background. Good times, good times.

    When Salmon Fishing

    1. Focus on the fish.
    2. Hold it under the gill for a picture.
    3. Focus on the fish.
    4. When a line starts getting pulled out, grab the rod and reel, and get cracking immediately.
    5. Pause the Hearts game.
    6. As in, put the cards down.
    7. Peek at cards of person reeling fish.
    8. Ask for steaks of salmon as well as filets.
    9. Tip the people well.
    10. Wear warm clothes.
    11. A jacket would have worked well.
    12. Wake up early. Really early. Thinking of a number?
    13. Earlier than that.
    14. Focus on the fish.
    15. Save glamour shots for later.
    16. Bring food besides the sushi you're catching.
    17. Take Dramamamamamine.
    18. Get ready for the "may cause drowsiness".
    19. Bring friends.
    20. Pfocus on the phish.

  • Boy you really "hooked" me with that story. You're sure to "land" many readers with this "whale" of a tale. I would have been "reeling" from getting up at 4am. Looks like you and your "catch" Esther had a great time! Did you slip the other people a "fin" to use their boat?

I feel woozy "herring" that story. I can't "fathom" it. It's giving me a "haddock".

P.S. -Did you "release" the fish or did you "eat" it?

  • *rolls eyes* nicely done, dear.  silly, silly.  i particularly appreciated the "ghoti" joke ~ it's an old Lingustics joke that we bandy about the English department.  (Along with the word "bandy.")

Esther looks great, btw.  I think the vegetarian thing is working out for her.  Oh, shoot, I think I'm supposed to call her...*makes note to self*  Tell her I'll call her this weekend, k??

I'm stopping my comment here, since I got such a hard time about the length of my last comment

  • Ohhh my! I was truly surprised (both that you could keep our little trip a secret, and to find myself on a fancy, shmancy boat in the middle of the not-so-little lake). I'm still really proud of myself for catching my first real fish. =)

  • Hilarious.  Brilliant.  Those eProps are For Real, not default.

  • Wish I was there!

  • My vision of hell might actually entail being woken up at 4 a.m. and photographed holding fish all day. Accompanied by the music of Phil Collins, of course.

I much prefer Wilco concerts, which is why I am now certainly planning on going. Let's figure out where to meet as the big day approaches.

  • You can only catch a fish like that in the Pacific Northwest... Congrats! Hope you guys are having fun. I'm not convinced you were awake while fishing. I'm not convinced Ester was in love with it either... but you two are so adorable and those are some KILLER fish. Congrats.

I get motion sickness BAD so I don't think I need to follow your Salmon fishing thing... But thanks for the tips anyway.

  • Do you remember fishing for trout with Grandpa? These pictures reminded me of the excitement that catching a fish produces. I laughed at David's comments, clever fellow.

  • good times, Ester, you are a freakin stud!!!  Well done team!
