One grade is in! I've got an A- for Strategic Management. Tonight is the final hour in my MBA, unless I bomb it in which case there will be another final hour.
Some kids at my old high school were suspended for profanity on their MySpace accounts, something that does not surprise me. It does make me question why they would want to step into such a messy issue, but it's something they're good at screwing up, historically. A la NCU.I don't believe schools belong in the business of suspending students for things they do outside of school. If they do something illegal, let the law take care of it. If it isn't illegal, and if it's done outside the school, take a deep breath and realize that you're a school board member and need to keep the megalomaniac under control.
Am I missing anything? Should schools be allowed to suspend kids for _____ done outside of school?

i agree with you..... let the law handle it.
NCU as in North Central University?
Yesh. As in Yesh! and more shtuff like that.
Well put. Especially about NCU.
I didn't know that you attended NCU.
That's absurd. The school's responsibility is to educate kids, not to raise them.
I can't approve of suspending for profanity on their own myspace page, which has nothing to do with school. In cases where students put up pictures of themselves boozing it up and are forbidden to do so by the school's rules, then I say nail 'em. I'm all for weeding out the stupid* in kids as early as possible. But language is subjective. Which was going to be a future post of mine. I'm now forced to assume you are reading my mind.
*stupid not referring to humorous slapstick and that sort of thing-funny and not hurting anything that is funny is ok by me
You sir, are loopy.
Thanks for not ordering me around on facebook like David does. But I guess it worked for him... I cut my finger on Mother's Day trying to make a delicious dish for her. It turned out tasty. Too bad you live very far away because the wedding pictures are going to be a challenge you would love to tackle. Outside, at night, overlooking a twinkiling city, with a swimming pool behind us, and candle light and christmas lights. We may have to move the location or the time depending on the abilities of the photographer we hire. 2 have already said they want to but aren't sure they can do it.
ryc ~ I know, honey. I know. I won't ask any more. You can just be in charge of dropoffs, which you do well
hey there
wow. His pictures are really beautiful. I'll contact him. Thanks.
ryc: Yes, I did. How could you tell?
Cool picture, by the way. Are we surprised? Not at all. Your photography is always impressive -- though I also enjoy the plain ol' snapshots. (The kiddie pool / golf / fireworks day comes to mind.)
Let the law handle it, do they think they are going to fix the problem for suspending them????
UHM.... NO
Absolutely incredible. Are there any news links that I can read and post on my blog? I have a link on my blog to a story posted on MSNBC about a school district in Illinois keeping tabs on MySpace accounts.
see this is where you are wrong my friend. going to a school as strict as Calvary, one should expect to follow strict rules. this is a PRIVATE school, they are seperate from the state, so technically they can do what they please. whether that be spanking the students with a paddle (Falls Baptist) or suspending students for having a co-ed sleepover that is unchaperoned with alcohol. Did you even know the exact details of all of this? There is so much more that we don't know. Are you telling me that it's ok for kids to murder, smoke pot, have sex, drink alcohol, etc etc as long as it's done outside of school? i think a school such as calvary needs to set their guidelines somewhere. private schools don't want their students to be doing the ways of the world- there is a code of conduct. so if you don't agree with them, then don't send your kids there, or transfer to a different school. it's a simple as that. believe me, at first i thought they were over-reacting too, but once i talked to the principle and he reminded me of their little co-ed sleepover, i'd say i'd have to agree. look at alot of the public schools, the myspaces showed their UNDERAGE students, mind you, drunk as heck. so what do the coaches do? kick them off the team. they have every right to. are you telling me that's wrong??
BUT THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS....whether expelling them was right or wrong- TWO OF THE THREE boys have totally changed their lives. I've known them for quite some time and they were into a lot of crap and now they'r estarting over new, plus they get their diplomas, and they're happy. So now tell me what you have to say.
THEY DIDNT SUSPEND THEM FOR PROFANITY!!!!!!!
THREE GOT EXPELLED FOR THE FOLLOWING:
Co ed sleepover
Unchaperoned
With Alcohol.
Lying about the above.
Talking about how they love to drink vodka.
SOMEONE GOT IN SCHOOL SUSPENSION FOR...
Trying to cover up for them.
Quit spreading a rumor that isn't true. Ask your sister for crying out loud.
