  • Edit: My most recently completed website endeavor.

Today I turned the corner onto a street in rural Wisconsin and saw a speed limit sign for 35 mph. Well, it said 25 - but I saw 35 mph. Not something that happens occassionally, this is what I always do. Every time, I add 10 to a sign and figure that's the actual limit I have to stay under, with the exception of interstates where it's more of a do-what-you-can-get-away-with 85 mph revision.

Surely I'm not the only one! What do you add?

  • Good question.  I wish I had asked it.  I think about 5-6 miles per hour.

  • I answered your question below.

  • Actually no.  I wrote about 20 post in the 15 hour drive to Houston.  This was just one of them.  I still think yours is better.

  • I add 5 to the sign and then 5 to my spedometer.  Why?  Because I noticed that whenever I go past those big signs saying how fast you're going, I'm always apparently going 5 less than what I thought I was.  So, I figure if the speed limit is 40, I can go 45 (50 if you're on the northside...hell, maybe 55 because the cops here just don't care) and then I can go what my car says is 50 because it might actually be 45.

It's like a bad algebra problem...

  • I add 5 mph on the sign but actually find myself doing 10 mph over. I've shouted you out on my latest blog entry, lol. Peace!

  • I ran across to your page!!

  • haha i guess, i read it and pondered over it for quite awhile. in the end i decided to see what everyone else's thoughts were. i dont know, i guess i would change my self preception. what would you change?

  • Just thought I'd check in.

  • i multiply by 2. it's gotten me into many a bind, but hey! SPEED!

ryc: well you will not believe what i'm about to tell you. where i'm from, cute quality boys walk around town carrying pineapples! some even juggle them!

  • 1. I'm jealous/proud/envious/impressed that TheologiansCafe is commenting for/with you.  When you're a famous blogging personality someday, do I still get to say I knew you "back when"??  I'll tell people, "Yeah, bullmeister once left used chewing gum on my coffee table," and they'll swoon.

    2. Fine, post as many times as you want!  I do...but, I might suggest, IF I was going to suggest, which I never would, that perhaps you could comment ON THE CONTENT of the entry....like, the first ever blog entry!  You should at least take credit for it....

    3. What time ARE you coming over?

    4. I'm doing shopping today.  Tell me what you want for Christmas or I'm making up my own answer.

887,126,871. I'm no good at numbered lists.  I'm an English major, you know.

  • *wrinkled brow*..speed.. limit?  *blank stare*

  • Actually I go whatever speed feels right until my radar goes off and then I back it down to the correct speed. That radar has paid for itself 100 times over.

  • I add five to anything below 40, and typically 10 to anything above 40.

  • Like the site Nick...Hey a quick comment on that...You might want to check the hyperlink on your face on the team page. All of the others have working links on their respective pictures....Sorry for the harse, harse, harse criticism...........lololol

  • hey, stumbled upon your site, thought i'd say hey since random visitors that dont comment piss me off.  anyhow.. comment back!

  • Haha, I usually add... oh ummm...about 5. Depends where I am in my town and how many other crazy drivers are in my proximity...

  • It is a complicated process.  If I am the only soul on the street I add 5 to 10 as a minimum base to begin with.  Then if I am on a multiple lane road, I speed up until I am the second fastest car (unless that is just entirely too fast --I usually cut the limit about 85 in a 65).  I figure the cop will catch them, not me.  Also I try to stay as much in the slow lane doing the fast speeds just so that if I round a  corner and there sits a cop, the cop gets the other guy that is going slightly faster than me.  So far I only have one ticket from ... um ... 6 years ago.  Wow, I didn't realize that it has been that long since a ticket!

RYC:  I regard Missouri as the midwest.  I had a friend call it the upper south, but then southern friends in seminary bawked at the idea.  And who is Jeremy?

  • Good Afternoon to you all!

    http://www.xanga.com/the_Coley_he_seeks  Christmas lights

    TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
    HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
    PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
    WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
    AND TO SEE JUST WHO
    IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

    I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
    NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
    NOT EVEN A TREE.

    NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
    JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
    ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
    OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

    WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
    AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
    A SOBER THOUGHT
    CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

    FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
    IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
    ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

    THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
    SILENT, ALONE,
    CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
    IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

    THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
    THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
    NOT HOW I PICTURED
    A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

    WAS THIS THE HERO
    OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
    CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
    THE FLOOR FOR A BED?

    I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
    THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
    WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

    SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
    THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
    AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
    A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

    THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
    EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
    BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
    LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

    I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
    HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
    ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

    THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
    I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
    AND STARTED TO CRY.

    THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
    "SANTA DON'T CRY,
    THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

    I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
    I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
    MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
    MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

    THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
    AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
    I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
    I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

    I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
    SO SILENT AND STILL
    AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
    FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

    I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
    ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
    THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
    SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

    THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
    WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

    ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
    "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

This poem was written by a Marine. The
following is his request. I think it is reasonable.....

PLEASE. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many people as you can? Christmas will be coming soon and some credit is due to our U.S. service men and women for our being able to celebrate these festivities. Let's try in this small way to pay a tiny bit of what we owe. Make people stop and think of our heroes, living and dead, who sacrificed themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed
