  • It's a classical week for me.

Today, I was saving elm trees again! Dutch elm disease wiped out many of our mature elm trees in the US in the middle of the last century - taking out once beautiful boulevards and neighborhood canopies.

    From a Canadian example.

My job is to preventatively treat trees to protect them from the disease by injecting them. You can read about it here. It basically requires setting things up like this:

Then you sleep. Cuz it could take 3 hours for 40+ gallons to get absorbed by the tree. Today, though, with the rain, the trees were pumping like crazy! We had 4 trees done by noon, despite the hail and 50+ mph winds! Woo hoo!

    Yes. I <3 trees.

  • That tree looks like it is undergoing some strange surgical procedure.  Freaky, like Frankenstein...

I less than three trees, too.

  • Less than three? Are you making fun of my 5 year old tendencies? I'm really getting hit hard these days...I'm gonna go in my room, lock the door, and listen to Linkin Park.

  • Whoa!  A Flu shot for trees!

  • Poo.  No...  See, I am one of those old-fashioned people who can type whole words and sentences (with punctuation) faster than I can think up those txt shortcuts (there's probably a shortcut for the word "shortcut" but I don't know it)...  I'm making fun of the txt heart.  <3  ... less than three.  Whatever.  It was funny when I wrote it.

  • It still is funny. I was just proceeding to mock the <3 users' tendencies to like Linkin Park and the like. Worked with a nearly 40 year old consultant today who looked 24. She was texting a "cute pilot" while she waited for our meeting... You're young and young at heart, too, Kari! Embrace the shrtkts.

My parents always accidentally delete text messages when I send them some... sillies. I wanna be a rockstar grandpa.

  • Ah.  I AM old enough to not know anything about Linkin Park.

  • I could pretend not to know anything about linkin park.

  • But, Pete, you work in the music industry! You should know it's not a park in downtown Chicago or a momument in the nation's capital.

  • What this English major is wondering is, who taught those children how to spell?? Them and Limp Bizkit.

  • What English major would say, "Them and Limp Bizkit."? OOoooOOoooOOooo

  • Burn dude, that's a burn.

  • Yes, listen to Pete. He's a good guy...clearly
