that is an amazing story.... and to answer your question.. I didn't add an article because it's an Arabic word and it implies an "a" - it is as if I were to say, "She wears a 'a shirt'" It's redundant, and people don't use it unless they're talking about a specific one, in which case I'd say I picked up the hijab.
