  • Raking Up is Hard to Do

Unnecessary clarification: the video camera is to help me get old footage stuck on tape onto DVDs. As in, over a year old stuff…

Hmm…I’m getting just as many comments on this entry from facebook as I am here on Xanga… Tonight, we hit up the Highland House for dinner after I found out that what looked like a quaint restaurant in Friestadt was actually a school! Seriously, it looked like the classic by-the-seashore restaurant every time that I had driven by, except tonight there was a cop with flashing lights outside the Lindenwood 4-H Community Center where there must’ve been a moving in the making. And instead of being by-the-seashore it’s in a farmer’s field. Anyways, the Highland House was a great place, and the server was great.

The two of us are nervous about leaving for New York on Saturday and England on Tuesday. Even though I’m coming back in October and she’s staying for a year, we both have a lot to wrap up quickly and a lot of last-things-to-do-while-we’re-in-the-same-continent types of things. I hate feeling even hints of stress because I’m such a low-stress person. But we’re both wondering what all we have to do to leave and mustering the energy to do it. And I’m starting sentences with conjunctions. That’s a bad thing.

Maybe I should get a laptop. Any two-for sales on MacBooks? There’s someone I know who would like one. hmmm? And I would really enjoy having a computer for the road since I do have 9 weeks of vacation. If I did get one, perhaps in the next several months, I would definitely spring for a wireless card through Verizon so I’d have wireless internet all over the US instead of having to find “default” wireless networks that people forget to secure. Someone had Verizon on their laptop in Waupaca last weekend and was able to browse easily from the woods. Very convenient. Yes, I know, nothing is sacred.

A few pictures from my little-known here, but quite popular on its own Flickr site.

My brain right now (from Bluff, NZ – on our way to Stewart Island):

    Jojo atop Ben Nevis:

Lehnert leaving us, but we do the “chur bro” gesture one last time…

    A rainbow in Bluff, NZ:

Dolphins on our way out to Stewart Island, this is shot from the ferry.

The cockpit of the plane we flew back on since the water was too rough:

    A really small plane. A 14 minute flight. =)

Looking back, I really wish I had my Nikon then… My pictures keep getting better, and I’m constantly critiquing myself, trying to remind myself that a new lens or a new filter really won’t make that much of a difference – that the biggest obstacle in my photographs is myself. To that end, I’m trying new things and reading up on photography more so than I have in the past. Many thanks to people who are giving me picture opportunities like The Monday Saga and David’s hookup to get me in as a football photographer. It’s one of my many pastimes…

Anyone have a Sony camcorder that uses Hi8 tapes? It would probably be a Handycam model. Cuz I’d like to borrow it…

I’ve hit the phase where I feel comfortable calling Esther my girlfriend. A year ago today, I asked her out. =)

  • Just now you feel comfortable?

Oh yeah…I get it. For a while, you used to refer to me as your girlfriend. It was for fun of course…your fun…have I told you I bought a new ax?

Seriously though, you two…still “cute on a stick”!

  • You just came over to solicit comments, just admit it.

Yeah, I remember when you told me…it was the night I got locked out of my house and we went to Roast, remember??

Ok, ok, I’ll get to commenting…

  • ryc:  Hey, thank you!  I passed that info onto my dad.  I appreciate the suggestion :)

  • *ponders whether or not to give you the satisfaction of responding to your MacBook jab*

Ok, ok, YES I WANT A MACBOOK PRO!!!

Well, unless of course you were talking about someone else.

    In which case…

    I STILL WANT ONE!

Hey, in other news…you saw Matt Groth on Saturday? *jealous*

  • Naw, that guy slept on his couch all of Friday then took off for Tomah on Saturday and didn’t call me until he was halfway through Illinois on Sunday. *sighs*

  • Speaking of which, remember your football hookup can only last as long as the season goes. Although maybe we could get work as a basketball photographer…I could look into that…

  • I’ll check up on that for ya then homie G-dawg with special sauce and a side of onion rings.

  • And no, the game recaps thing hasn’t really panned out. I think we were going to link to online newspaper stories originally, but that hasn’t happened. We’re going to have a new system up pretty soon. Hopefully by Friday, but I’m going to have a *insert large word meaning “a lot” here* of work to get that ready.

  • Why would you attack a forest fire with a pick ax? Wouldn’t water work better?
